Wool is Cool, really

wool roving

Did you know?

Wool retains an ideal balance of moisture (regardless of how much or little water is exposed). In fact, wool can soak up to as much as 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet. Other fibers lay flat and parallel next to each other. But each fiber of wool, thanks to its “crimp” butts up against the next, creating air pockets forming a natural insulator.

Wool Also Keeps You Cool-those “air pocket” characteristics of wool mean that sweat doesn’t weigh down your insulation layers

And there is more..wool is also

  • Fire Resistant

  • Mildew & Mold Resistant. ...

  • Hypoallergenic. ...

  • Extremely Flexible & Durable. ...

  • Environmentally virtuous-essentially just the regrown hair of an animal, an entirely sustainable resource that causes no harm to animal or plant life. ...

American Farmland Trust

Thanks to the folks at AFT for a grant that allowed us to purchase small-scale wool processing equipment for the farm. Sheep get hot in the summer with those heavy sweaters they grow on their back, so we give them a good haircut. April is shearing month. We will be cleaning and processing our fleeces in 2022 .
